Ruth Bader Ginsburg has always been a champion of reproductive rights. She’s become a pop culture icon, with a biography titled Notorious RBG. Recently, she coined another catch phrase at a speaking engagement at Georgetown University. Justice Ginsburg was asked why she built her career around advocating for gender equality, and replied, “You mean, how did I decide to become a flaming feminist litigator?”
Before the end of the day, Irin Carmon, the creator of the Notorious RBG biography, had created a shirt featuring RBG’s portrait and those words. She chose to donate the profits of the shirts to us, Jane’s Due Process, in honor of our own cadre of flaming feminist litigators who help teens in Texas get judicial bypass. The shirts are available in both women’s fitted and men’s/unisex sizes.
Justice Ginsburg penned a characteristically flaming opinion in last year’s Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, which challenged Texas’s targeted restrictions of abortion providers in HB2. Ginsburg wrote, “It is beyond rational belief that H. B. 2 could genuinely protect the health of women, and certain that the law would simply make it more difficult for them to obtain abortions.”
