The 6-week abortion ban is still in effect in Texas. Copycat laws have been filed in more states, and these laws are just the newest wave of attacks on abortion rights. You’ve probably heard that Roe v. Wade is under threat — and that’s true. But Roe v. Wade has never fully protected the abortion rights of young people. In this critical moment, we’re calling on Congress to take action for abortion access and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act — and we need your help to make it happen.
The Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) would create federal statute affirming that people in every state have the right to provide and receive abortion care without medically unnecessary restrictions. If passed, WHPA would remove barriers to access including mandatory waiting periods, biased counseling, and forced ultrasounds — all of which have been in place in Texas for years before this 6-week ban was even put into place.
The US House of Representatives took action and passed the WHPA in the fall — and now we need the Senate to take action. If you’re in Texas, click here to learn who your US Senator is and how you can contact them. Then give them a call and let them know you want them to work to bring WHPA to a vote and vote YES to expand abortion rights in EVERY community.
Not sure what to say? Here’s an easy template to get you started:
Hi. My name is __________________________________ and I live in your district. I am calling to urge you to vote YES on the Women’s Health Protection Act. I want you to take this action to stop extreme abortion bans and restrictions. Abortion is a right that should be afforded to every pregnant person. Everyone, regardless of circumstance, deserves the ability to access abortion. Again, vote YES on the Women’s Health Protection Act, and support both the EACH Act and the HEAL for Immigrant Families Act. Thank you.
