Jane’s Due Process is seeking a Communications Manager to support communications for youth reproductive rights in Texas.
The Communications Manager will create written and visual content to support JDP’s mission. They will create both digital and print communications, contribute content to our social media, and assist with donor relations through communications channels. They will assist with press relations and statement preparation. They will work closely with the Development Coordinator, External Affairs Director, and program staff.
Core Responsibilities
- Work with the External Affairs Director and advocacy department to develop the messaging goals, objectives, and strategy
- Create, communicate, and maintain processes for staff to request communications needs
- Develop and maintain brand standards and marketing plans in collaboration with the External Affairs Director
- Manage website content, ensuring it is up to date, and managing a website redesign process in partnership with the External Affairs Director
- Write, design, and lay out monthly e-newsletters and other emails
- Develop social media goals in collaboration with the External Affairs Director, and track and report on digital metrics related to these goals
- Lead community relationship management on our social media accounts
- Attend organization events or organize a coworker or volunteers to gather content at events and create social media as needed
- Communicate with program staff to keep up-to-date on JDP’s latest work and to inform messaging goals, strategies, and tactics
- Design flyers, banners, brochures, fact sheets, signage, etc. or work with a freelance designer to design collateral as needed and manage production process
- Maintain the Jane’s Due Process photo library
- Maintain press contacts list and work with External Affairs Director to develop, maintain, and manage press relationships
- Work with External Affairs Director and other appropriate staff on statements, talking points, and press releases
- Work with the Youth Content Squad, including recruitment, selection, and training, as they engage in a content creation fellowship program during part of the year
Common daily tasks include…
- Drafting and designing email blasts
- Create, update, run, and manage social media advertising
- Website management and content updates
- Coordinating press interviews with appropriate staff and coaching staff for interviews
- Draft statements regarding current events (court decisions, legislative developments, lawsuits, etc.) in a timely fashion and preparing statements for possible expected outcomes ahead of time to reduce impacts of urgency
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years in communications or communications-related roles
- Strong communicator and presenter
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and content layout and design skills
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage one’s own tasks and time
- Experience with acting as a press liaison
- Experience managing projects involving a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external
- Problem solving orientation
- Strong knowledge of and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
- Deep understanding of issues related to reproductive justice
- Commitment to racial, economic, and gender liberation
- The position is fully remote, but candidates must reside somewhere in Texas
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting annual salary of $70,000 – $79,000 before taxes. This role will be a Manager or Senior Manager role depending on experience of selected applicant. Salary commensurate with role and experience
